There is no doubt that South Australia is a sporting state and that there is never a shortage of sporting teams to support, but one particular sport has reinvented itself over the last couple of years and is starting to gain some serious momentum. The Adelaide 36ers playing under coach Joey Wright in the National Basketball League (NBL) is a sport now destined for success, featuring the Adelaide 36ers who are also on the pathway, both at a team and individual level for big things. A journey is just beginning at Adelaide and fans would be mad not to get on board.
Not enough? Well here are five reasons to head to the basketball in Adelaide this season –
1. Game day experience
The social media hashtag this year for the Adelaide 36ers has been #FillTheArena and there is good reason for this too. A packed out Titanium Security Arena is one of the loudest noises you will hear in South Australian sport. It creates an electric atmosphere that really cannot be fully appreciated until it is experienced. Murray Magpie is always up and about posing for photos with the kids and adults alike in a pleasant change from being swooped by Magpies outside at this time of year! Add to that Jarrod Walsh, who has established himself as one of South Australia’s premier masters of ceremonies and an array of catchy tunes and you have got yourself a brilliant game day experience.
But wait… there is more! The Scout Deck offers a selection of great food including South Australian produce for the perfect meal before a game situated right in the Arena. South Aussie sport. South Aussie food. A great balance.
2. The Squad
There is so much to be excited about with the current Adelaide 36ers squad. There is Terrance Ferguson who by all reports could be a first round NBA draft pick next season. Nathan Sobey who has taken his game to another level with increased court time so far in season 2016/2017. Plus, what about Jerome Randle? He is doing things at Titanium Security Arena that nobody before him has ever done. Randle is one of those players who can single handedly change a game in an instant and someone you would quite happily pay money to see on his own. Of course you do not have to though, because with captain Mitch Creek, 2016 NBA Summer League player Eric Jacobsen and former club MVP Daniel Johnson, there is no shortage of talent on court.
The NBL has never been better. Big names are starting to return to Australia, which is providing such an even and balanced competition. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day. Every NBL game you attend will be a contest. While you may turn up to see the Adelaide 36ers play, you will also leave content in knowing that you have seen world class players from the Brisbane Bullets with the likes of former NBA player Cameron Bairstow, from the Perth Wildcats with Australian Boomers member Damian Martin and Melbourne United with fellow Boomer Chris Goulding and veteran David Anderson. Big name coaches in Andrew Gaze and Andrej Lemanis are also on board which is a great endorsement for the game.
4. Options for everyone
There is a membership that suits all types of supporters, no matter where you live, how you like to watch your basketball or what age you are. An Adelaide 36ers game is equally accessible if you like to attend alone, with the family or even as part of your date night. How do we know this? Well, there was even an on court marriage proposal a couple of weeks ago!
There are full season memberships available or even three or five game memberships for those who are a little pressed for time, but would still like to head to a game or five of hoops throughout the season.
The Adelaide 36ers have not forgotten where elite basketball talent comes from either. Speaking on their website earlier this year upon launching their new membership drive, Adelaide announced that “We want to close the gap by interacting with fans at Local Club level and Social Ball level. To do that, we will be a presence on Friday nights at metropolitan District games and on weeknights at social basketball games at Basketball SA venues across the metropolitan area.” This is a great initiative from Adelaide that helps to connect the sport from the grassroots to the big time.
5. Ticket that keeps on giving
A membership to the Adelaide 36ers is much more than just a ticket to the game. While that is the most important aspect, a ticket also allows free access to watch any NBL game you wish via the NBL app. Basketball anytime, anywhere! A season pass also allows you to have 10% off all club merchandise and to receive regular emails from the club as well as a membership pack. A member also receives exclusive access to parts of the website that the public cannot see. It does not get much better than that!
So do yourself a favour and sign up to become an Adelaide 36ers member today. Be part of the 36ers Family! See you at the hoops.
