Summer Scoop – Week 5

Quote of the week

– Greg Hughes father of Phillip Hughes during this inquest into his son’s death during the week. Comments like that do not help anyone involved.

Tweet of the week

And the response…

Flopping is going to dominate the NBL conversation this season.

The hero

Daria Gavrilova. At a time where there is almost zero Australian tennis players to like, Gavrilova is slowly starting to make a name for herself. During the week she beat world number one Angelique Kerber and is just quietly going about her business. Good to see.

The villain

Nick Kyrgios. Enough said.

The prediction

Jordan Lewis will be at Melbourne in 2017. The Hawks would not want to make a mess of the Jaeger O’Meara deal now would they? Feathers have been ruffled at the once untouchable Hawks.

Crow Call Summer

At the end of the day, I think the Gibbs deal will get done, but by early in the week if Carlton want to continue to be stubborn, Adelaide need to pull out of it. There is no way that the Crows can enter 2017 will the same midfield as they had this season. If Carlton cannot see that trading Gibbs is actually the best thing for their club as well, take pick 13 off the table and take it elsewhere. Pearce Hanley remains unsigned. Go to the Giants and raid their talent. There are other options. Then see what happens.

Do the Crows keep Ricky Henderson now that he has not been picked up in the free agency period?  It’s a no for mine.

And why has there been no movement on appointing a replacement for David Noble at the most critical time of the year for that role? Hurry up.

The Scoop

I’m refusing to rule out Ben Jarman playing at Adelaide next year.

Turn it up

Why did it take so long to officially confirm Will Davison and Jonathan Webb as the winners of the 2016 Bathurst 1000. Surely the appeal Red Bull and Jamie Whincup lodged could have been heard at the start of the week. It was eventually sorted out on Friday. Too long.

Extra scoop

The AFL are said to be watching the NBL closely after the basketball league appointed two full time referees this season. Didn’t a certain column call for this a few weeks back!?

And… By popular demand –

Red or yellow?
